AI citation monitoring: does ChatGPT recommend your business?
AI citation monitoring means checking daily whether ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini mention your business when customers ask about services in your industry. Your competition may have been recommended by AI for months — and you won't know until you measure.
Invisible customer loss
A customer asks ChatGPT: "Can you recommend a good accountant for a small business in Poznań?" They get three names. They call the first one. No analytics tool will show this — in your stats, that customer never existed. That's exactly why you need to measure AI visibility separately, on the question side, and not only on the traffic side.
What exactly do we monitor?
Brand citations — whether and how often your business appears in answers to questions from customers in your industry and location.
Competitors in answers — who gets mentioned instead of you and what those businesses have in common.
Sources — which websites and profiles AI draws its information from (Sources Tracking) — so you know where to strengthen your presence.
AI traffic — visits to your website from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot, measured separately from Google traffic.
AI readiness of your site — whether AI bots can read your website and whether your content is suitable for citation (AI Readiness).
North Star at Sempuls: the number of citations and mentions of your business growing month over month. Every task from the Agent works toward that one result.
What does working with monitoring look like?
We define customer questions together with you (Sempuls suggests them based on your industry and keywords).
The system queries AI engines every day and records the answers.
In the dashboard you see the citation trend, competitors and cited sources.
The Agent turns gaps into tasks: what to add to your site, where to get listed, what content to publish.
Frequently asked questions
How does AI citation monitoring work?
Every day, Sempuls asks AI engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini) the questions your customers actually ask — e.g. "which auto repair shop do you recommend in Wrocław?". It then analyzes the answers: whether your business name appears, in what context, and which competitors are named instead of you.
Where does AI get information about my business?
From public sources: your Google Business Profile and reviews, your website, business directories, Wikipedia, industry sites, and forums. Monitoring shows not only WHETHER you're cited, but also which sources AI draws from — so you know where to strengthen your presence.
Is it possible to increase the number of AI citations?
Yes. Citations grow when a business is well described in the sources the models use: a complete profile, fresh reviews, a website that answers questions directly (FAQ, pricing), consistent data in directories, and expert content. Sempuls turns these areas into specific weekly tasks.
How is this different from monitoring Google rankings?
Ranking monitoring measures where your link sits in search results. Citation monitoring measures your brand's presence in AI answers — there are no positions 1–10 there, just "you're mentioned or you're not." The two measurements complement each other, and you'll find both in Sempuls.
